Creative Movement

Ages: 6-8 and 9-11

Tue 8:30am – 9:30am, Sun 9:30am – 10:30am

A movement and composition class designed for young learners. Students will physically explore common themes in their life including animals, weather, history, emotions, geography, friendship, humor, and more. We will start with a themed movement warm up, practice some useful technique, and end class by creating our own dances and sharing them. We will explore technique in a range of styles including Modern, Ballet, Flamenco, Hip-hop, and more!

* Teacher requests that a guardian, caretaker, or sitter is available for students age 6 to 8 for assistance when necessary. It is physically unsafe for a young child to be exploring movement alone at home. The student will not be admitted into class if they are at home alone.

Dance Composition

Ages: 13+

Wed 6:45pm – 7:45pm

Have you ever wondered how to make a dance? This class is for you! Each week we will learn choreographic tools to create movement, organize movements into a cohesive phrase, and build a dance piece. Beginning and inexperienced dancers are welcome! This class will have some outside homework.

Movement for Musicians (starts January 12)

Tue 5:00pm – 6:00pm

Movement for Musicians is a special class offering to help musicians release tension, strengthen posture, and increase their sense of rhythm and musicality. We will physically embody rhythms to create a more organic and innate understanding of tempo. We will challenge the ear with uncommon rhythms. Finally, we will work through guided improvisation to songs they are working on in their music class.

Dance for Ability (starts January 11)

Mon 2:45pm – 3:45pm

This class is designed for students on the spectrum, students with learning challenges, and students with physical limitations. We will start class with rehabilitative movement exercises, work to improve posture, decrease pain, and progress to creative movement and guided improvisation. When necessary, this class will be divided into two sections to accommodate the needs of the learners.

  • Class size limited to 8 students per section of this course.
  • Teacher recommends that a parent is available for students who need moderate interventions and present for students who need more support.
